Executive chairman of medical device pioneers CME Medical, Stephen Thorpe has been announced as Entrepreneur of the Year (in the category of Business Products and Services) in the Ernst and Young North of England Entrepreneur Of The Year. Mr Thorpe (pictured) said: “I was honoured to receive this award, not just for myself but on behalf of the entire company. It’s a reflection of the hard work and commitment of our team both here in Blackpool and across the UK. “This level of teamwork, and a dedication to developing an impressive portfolio of medical devices for patients in hospitals and in the community, has seen our turnover grow to £14m. Robert Crooks, partner and North of England Entrepreneur Of The Year Leader at Ernst & Young, said: “Entrepreneurs form the foundations of our economy, so it’s important that we continue to support their ambitions and celebrate their successes.”

A well-studied Blackpool mum has realised her dream of opening a new business venture. Zarana Khajura, who came to the UK from India in 2009, has qualifications in a range of fields having achieved a Masters Degree in International Hospitality and Events, a BA (Hons) in Commerce and a diploma in Aviation at Blackpool and The Fylde College.

The Lancashire Enterprise Partnership today agreed an historic Growth Deal with the Government which will see £233.9million invested in Lancashire. £84.2million has been confirmed in the first year, and as part of the Government’s on-going commitment to the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership it has provided an indicative award of a further £149.6million of funding from 2016/17 onwards.
