A BUSINESS park which was taken over six years ago after months of neglect now provides jobs and has boosted the economy.

The Bankfield site, on Bristol Avenue, Blackpool, was blighted by vandals before being rescued by High Crown Estates Ltd.

But now, the buildings have all been occupied and hundreds of staff are employed in four companies on site, including Lailas Fine Foods, Booths Dispensers and Primera Life.

Justin Hall, estates manager of High Crown Estates Ltd, said: “The area is quite commercial, has main routes running through it and is good for a number of industries.

“When we bought the building all the windows had been smashed in by vandals and we had to evacuate people who had moved on to the site illegally.

“It wasn’t great but now people are thriving which is great for the area – and the employment is brilliant.”

Primera Life moved into their office space six years ago and has never looked back.

The company has expanded rapidly and now exports its products across the globe.

Primera, which specialises in the design and distribution of locking systems for mental health patients, currently has eight full time staff and is poised to expand in the next 12 months.

Director Jerry Smith said: “With the support of our landlords, we’ve been able to able to acquire sufficient floor space to more than double the turnover of our business and avoid the expense of having to find and relocate to alternative accommodation elsewhere.

“We are delighted we have the room to grow and potentially create more jobs in the area without the pressure of needing bigger premises in the foreseeable future.”

The site is set to get bigger this summer when one of its current tenants – Training 2000 – plans to relocate and free up space for other businesses.
