Come and celebrate ‘Small Business Saturday’ - 7th December

Blackpool’s newest companies will be encouraging more people to start up their own businesses, at a special exhibition this Saturday.

Blackpool’s newest companies will be encouraging more people to start up their own businesses, at a special exhibition this Saturday.

Sixteen people who have recently set up shop will be on hand at the Winter Gardens to give advice to people about becoming your own boss.

It’s all part of *Small Business Saturday* which is being recognised across Blackpool to encourage residents to discover and visit local companies.

All day, people will be able to park for free at Council car parks, except for at the Sandcastle, after a joint initiative between Blackpool Council and Blackpool BID.

As well as encouraging people to shop with small outlets in the town’s shopping centres, the day is also being used as a tool to get more people to set up their own business.

Businesses, ranging from legal services to cake making, will all be on hand to offer tips and advice from their own experience of setting up a new company.

Each of them have been set up thanks to the Council’s Get Started service, which is part of the Start Up Lancashire project, supported by European Regional Development Fund.

The service offers advice and workshops for new companies, as well as helping with access to loans and grants.

Cllr Fred Jackson, cabinet member for urban regeneration, said: “I’m extremely proud to be supporting our small businesses.

“As well as inviting people to come and shop at some of our smaller companies this Saturday, we will also be on hand to talk to people about the benefits of setting up your own business.

“New companies can start from a simple idea, passion or skill. Whatever your business, our experts will be on hand to help develop it into a functioning company, providing advice on business plans, accounting and accessing finance.

“We have an excellent mix of new companies on hand for people to come and speak to. They sell a variety of products to varying customers and will be able to provide some really useful advice about their experience of becoming their own boss.”
