Elena Mingas launched Tangle Dress Design, a boutique outlet and the first of its kind to offer original design, quality craftsmanship, aiming to make tailor-made luxury more affordable.
The dressmaker was initially given the help and advice she needed to open her business by Blackpool Council’s Economic Development ‘Get Started’ business support team who taught Elena how to set-up her company.
Geoff Reeves, an advisor at get Started said, “She came to me determined but didn’t know how to go about setting up her business. It’s great to see her doing well. She’s the kind of person you know is going to do well because she had all the attributes and skills to start with”
What makes Elena’s story interesting is that she’s the first in the UK to receive support from the UK Start-Up Loans initiative for young people, a government-backed scheme.
She was chosen from over 2,000 applicants and was awarded £2,500. You may remember that in May this year, the government announced the launch of the £82m program to help provide funding for young people hoping to set up their own businesses. the scheme is chaired by entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den participant James Caan. Always knowing she was going to set up her own business, Elena opened her shop in September on Rochdale Road, Bury, and is already taking orders. With Tangle Dress Design, Elena’s aiming to dress women for special occasions such as birthdays, proms, races and awards with bespoke designed dresses for around £270.
