From bucket of water to own cleaning company

Posted in Start

Pawel Golebiewski started his entrepreneurial journey at the age of 8 washing cars, now at the age of 31 he has launched his own cleaning company – PMG Multi Services.

Pawel launched and developed the business with the help of Blackpool Council’s free business advice service ‘Get Started’ after trying a huge range of different job roles.

He explained: “I realised that money was a bit tight when I was very young so I started to clean cars at a local training centre car park to help my mum pay the bills and by 11 was working in the local garden centre.

“In my younger years I lost my dad and a few months later a close friend committed suicide. Following these sad and tragic events I found extra determination to make something of my life.

“Over the next ten years I tried so many jobs including being a builder, driver and delivery person, a carpenter and handyman, washing restaurant pots and then training to be a chef before learning to work at heights on ropes maintaining structures such as extra-large stack chimneys.

“When I moved to Blackpool with my family I decided to go back to my roots and started to clean for a large supermarket eventually becoming an area manager responsible for 23 sites and 250 staff, delivering significant performance improvements.

“The turning point for me was when I turned up for a nightshift clean and there were no staff to assist. I tackled the job on my own. I knew then it was time to set up my own cleaning business.”

Kriss Wilson, Small Business Adviser from Blackpool Council’s Get Started service helped Pawel find out how to prepare a business plan and a financial forecast to see if his idea could work.

She commented: “We are always delighted to support budding entrepreneurs such as Pawel who are committed to making a success of their new venture. It’s a lovely story that a keen young man who started off washing cars to make some extra money is now running a commercial cleaning company. We wish him every success.

“Our Get Started team help people who want to set up all sorts of different types of businesses. We have supported people who wanted to launch new ventures from pizza restaurants to dance academies. We welcome calls from anyone who would like free advice on stepping onto the business ladder.”
