Top Gun Tools & Fixings Continue Their Net Zero Journey with Ongoing Sustainability Support

Blackpool based Top Gun Tools & Fixings, a specialist supplier of professional power tools, fixings, and fastenings, has continued to make strong progress on their path to Net Zero with ongoing support from sustainability specialists at the Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy.
Top Gun Tools & Fixings are part of the wider Top Gun Group, including sister company Prestige Hardware & Doors, which offers a vast array of doors and ironmongery. With an ever-expanding portfolio of products, the Top Gun Group is committed to achieving full Net Zero.
When Managing Director Chris Smith first joined the programme, his goal was to reduce electricity consumption and increase energy efficiency. An initial comprehensive energy audit led to a personalised decarbonisation action plan, highlighting opportunities such as switching to LED lighting, introducing electric vehicles and investing in on-site renewable energy.
Since then, Top Gun has completed the transition to 100% LED lighting and added two electric vehicles to their fleet. The next major step is the installation of solar panels, supported by battery storage to help store electricity generated over the weekend when the business is closed. With planning submitted and architectural drawings complete, installation is expected to begin in January 2026.
“A key part of this progress has been the hands-on support provided by the Academy,” says Chris “The team sourced competitive quotes for the solar panels and liaised directly with suppliers, making the entire process straightforward and manageable. The most cost-effective installer turned out to be one of our biggest customers, which created a really positive local business-to-business link.”
After discovering online that grant funding was available to support local businesses, Chris made an enquiry and was able to access the Academy’s grant scheme, reducing upfront project costs by almost 20%.
Chris notes how valuable the clear guidance and proactive support has been throughout. “The Academy has guided us through every step of our journey to Net Zero so far,” says Chris. “They sourced quotes, managed leasing with external companies and provided clear, practical advice on what to implement. The sustainability specialists make the whole process straightforward, and nothing is ever too much trouble.”
Alongside the measures that Top Gun are already implementing, they are committed to recycling all waste. As a company they are firmly focused on achieving full Net Zero, and are keen to explore any further recommendations from the Academy.
“It’s a fantastic resource that every local business should take advantage of,” Chris adds. “The tailored support and grant funding make a huge difference for any company looking to reduce their carbon footprint.”
