Blackpool Council Launches New Support Service for Residents and Employers
Blackpool Council’s employment team has introduced a new innovative service, WorkWell, aimed at helping residents who have recently lost their jobs or are at risk of losing them due to health issues. The programme also supports local employers in addressing health-related challenges faced by their staff.
WorkWell is an early-support service for individuals with disabilities or health conditions to help them secure or maintain employment. Participants benefit from a 12-week personalised programme, which includes bespoke employment support and dedicated mental and physical well-being coaching delivered by in-house practitioners.
The service is open to anyone aged 16 or over who either lives in Blackpool, is registered with a Blackpool GP, or works for a Blackpool-based company but lives in Lancashire or South Cumbria. Eligible participants must be:
- Recently unemployed (within the last 6 months), or
- Employed but on sick leave, or
- Struggling to stay in work and require assistance in discussing adjustments such as flexible working or reasonable accommodations with their employer.
Employers can also refer employees who are finding it difficult to manage at work or are on sick leave and facing challenges in returning. The WorkWell team can help employers create ‘thrive in work’ plans and explore workplace adjustments to support their staff in returning to work sooner.
Our team will be happy to come and speak to your staff to explain the programme, how it works, and its benefits for both employees and employers.
For more information, referrals, or self-referrals, please contact Chris McNally at chris.mcnally@blackpool.gov.uk or visit the WorkWell webpage to complete a referral form. Employers and colleagues are encouraged to share this information widely.
