Businesses invited to take part in StreetLife’s ‘Big SleepOut’
Jane Hugo, Streetlife’s Chief Executive, has announced that registration for the Big SleepOut 2023 is now open. The annual fundraiser, now in its 7th year, helps to raise vital funds for StreetLife, a local organisation supporting young people who are faced with homelessness.
Each year, an average of 300 vulnerable and young people access StreetLife’s services and 150 of those use the night shelter in Blackpool. This shelter provides emergency accommodation for anyone aged between 16-25 with nowhere else to go.
To help the charity continue their essential work, Streetlife is inviting business employees to take part in the annual ‘Big SleepOut’.
Taking place at St. John’s Square in Blackpool’s town centre, groups are invited to take part from 8pm - 6am (or as long as they can last!) on Friday 31st March 2023.
The event offers the opportunity for employees to take part in team building, as they endure a challenging night, all whilst helping to raise funds for a vital service for young people.
Groups of any size can register to take part, but the number of those sleeping out is limited to 200, so registering early is recommended.
Registration for the event costs £10 and participants will receive a wrist band, souvenir and survival pack, but will need to bring their own sleeping bag.
Jane Hugo, Streetlife’s CEO said, “The Big SleepOut is a fantastic showcase of the generosity and commitment of the people of Blackpool and surrounding areas.
“If you are interested in taking part, please register as soon as possible, as numbers are limited. The event itself is made even better by the wonderful people that take part.”
In previous years, the event has seen the generosity of over 150 people take to the street for a night and in 2021 raised over £15,000 to keep this vital facility going.
The monies raised will be used to provide emergency safe accommodation to homeless young people in their Night Shelter at St. Johns Walk in Blackpool town centre.
Jane continued, “I would like to thank the incredible participants of previous years for their dedication to help support StreetLife. Thanks to you, we have been able to keep our doors open to support young people for over 30 years and for that, we are incredibly grateful.”
To help make the event possible, The Big SleepOut is sponsored by Beaverbrooks The Jewellers.
Chief Executive, Anna Blackburn said, “Beaverbrooks is proud to be sponsoring The Big SleepOut for another year. The event is a great way to raise local awareness about homelessness, while generating funds that will make a huge difference to hundreds of young people’s lives.
“Registration is now open, so sign up, grab your sleeping bag and join the Streetlife team for a very rewarding fundraiser that will help hundreds of young people in Blackpool.”
