“Convenient, flexible space… and the reception team are just brilliant”
PHX Training, a business built on empowering people to build successful futures, has found its perfect workspace partner.
PHX is an award-winning training provider, offering vocational training programmes that support individuals into skilled employment in sectors including IT, warehousing, hospitality, health and social care and more. One of the North West’s largest training providers, the company runs the government’s Restart/AEB/Multiply & Work Based Learning from its five training centres, one of which is in Blackpool.
Training that gets people back into work
Graham Johnston is a Job Coach at PHX Blackpool. “We help unemployed people find work,” he says. “They could have been unemployed for two weeks or five years. They might need motivation to get back to work. They might need practical support like job searching, CV writing, help with covering letters or interview support. Whoever they are, whatever their background, we help them access training that gets them back into work.”
Many of the people Graham works with are referred by the local job centre, but that’s not the only route to PHX’s support. “As long as you’re over 19, you can give us a call and we can enrol you on one of our courses to get you the help you need.”
An ideal base for business
In Blackpool, PHX is based at the Enterprise Centre on Lytham Road. “The location is great,” says Graham. “We’re close to the town centre but we’re also convenient for people coming to us from Lytham, St Annes and Warton. We’re round the corner from Blackpool South station, the motorway is within easy reach and there’s plenty of parking nearby.”
As for the centre itself, Graham believes it’s the ideal base for the business. “We occupy four rooms here (one each for tutors, job search, the classroom and computer suite) and all our training courses take place at the centre,” he says. “What’s great is that we can add additional space when we need it on a short-term basis. So if we need to rent an additional couple of rooms for a day/week or two, we just talk to Louis Darbyshire, [Buildings Business Hub Coordinator] and he sorts it for us. That flexibility is valuable.”
Office space (and more) that supports the way you work
Graham feels the Enterprise Centre setup supports PHX in supporting its jobseekers. “I think some of the people who come to us for the first time can feel a bit nervous or daunted,” he says, “but the reception team are just brilliant at giving them a friendly welcome and putting them at ease. I came to the Enterprise Centre from an office where we didn’t have a reception team and we were up and down the stairs constantly, so their support is really welcome.
“It’s a spotlessly clean building. Public areas are light and inviting. If you have any issues (like a leaky tap) the team here will be on it straightaway. It’s a really good base for a business. I’d absolutely recommend it.”
