Force Technology Targets 20% Energy Bill Reduction
Discover why Force Technology’s Steve Williams calls the fully funded support from Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy a “no brainer”.
Force Technology manufactures the precision and high duty springs that pack as much power as it’s possible to squeeze into the smallest of spaces. Across transportation, aerospace and fluid power sectors, Force Technology works with 100+ global customers to engineer innovative solutions for the design and manufacturing challenges they face.
“We're a little bit different from many of our competitors in that we're very much engineers rather than just spring makers,” explains Steve Williams, Managing Director. “My background's in physics. My business partner's background is electronics. Together, we work with customers in heavy-duty markets to address and resolve real issues like vibration, resonance, weight, power and miniaturisation.”
Packing a global punch
Founded in 2015, Force Technology became the first company to set up shop on Blackpool’s nascent enterprise zone. They’ve been there ever since, although the company’s reputation has spread considerably further.
“We've recently managed to resolve a long-term issue for a US based company manufacturing civil aircraft gas turbine engines, something others hadn’t been able to resolve,” says Steve, “so we really do punch above our weight and push the boundaries, even against some of the very largest companies out there.”
The drivers of net zero
Steve became aware of the Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy through his long-term membership of the Blackpool Business Leaders’ Group. “We are one of those companies that gets involved with most opportunities that come our way,” Steve says. It was ideal timing.
“Clearly there's customer pressure to operate more sustainably, and there’s a moral obligation—you want to do your bit for society and for the planet,” Steve explains. “But the biggest pressure of all is energy costs. That’s a huge driver to reduce energy usage.”
At time of writing, the Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy has completed its audit of Force Technology, which has conveniently coincided with the company’s progress towards ISO 40001.
“Having assessed our energy needs, they will report back to us and make some recommendations on all the different potential savings (and carbon savings) we could make,” Steve says. “We'll feed that into our systems and decide which investments to make that will align with our environmental ISO 14001 standards, help us meet client expectations, and support our efforts to reduce energy usage.”
“Get in there. It's free.”
Force Technology is very much in the foothills of its work with Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy, but already Steve can see the benefits.
“They're very proactive. Very supportive. They've got some really good ideas. It's straightforward to do and it’s fully funded. To be honest, it's a no brainer because at the end of the day you're going to get substantial energy savings. They talk about cutting 20 percent off your energy usage and bills. That's their objective. So why wouldn't you? Get in there. It's free.”
