Mum of four, Teresa Kavanagh who lives in Blackpool with her children has launched a new non-surgical and non-invasive mobile specialist Body and Facial Aesthetics beauty business with the help of Blackpool Council following a personally challenging time.

Teresa has described the last many months like a strange board game of Snake and Ladders - From a change in her personal relationship to a relocation back from Scotland to Blackpool which provided a fresh start for her and her family.

The mother of four said: “As for so many people the last year and more has been a whirlwind and so challenging but we need to look forward and support each other so I decided to set up my own business.”

Teresa loves playing board games including snakes and ladders which is an activity that the whole family gets involved with as her daughter Kayleigh is bedbound with ME which started following Kayleigh catching Swine Flu several years ago.

Kayleigh’s brothers Ryan, Liam, and Morgan are all on hand to help Teresa with her caring role whilst she starts a new business and rebuilds the family life.

Teresa explained: “There is a lot going on in my family but I know that we can work together and help each other.  We came back to Blackpool as our previous time living here is full of great and happy memories.  Plus the town is full of life and fun with plenty of activities to keep us all busy.”

Teresa is using her many years’ of experience and training and working in salons to now offer her own mobile specialist Body and Facial Aesthetics service - all non-surgical and non-invasive.

Teresa added: “As far as I can find the nearest places offering these types of treatment are in Liverpool or Manchester.  I self-funded my own training a few years ago and invested in quality equipment to offer services across the coast. However, I needed practical business advice so turned to professionals and experts who could help.”

Teresa contacted a Blackpool Council Get Started business adviser to find out more about self-employment and options for starting up.  Following the calls, the Get Started team have kept in touch by email and answered any questions that Teresa has had.

Cllr Mark Smith, Blackpool Council Cabinet Member for Business, Enterprise and Job Creation, said: “It is amazing how resilient families can be and it’s great to see Teresa turn her difficult experiences into a fresh start.  Even better that Teresa has chosen her home Blackpool as the place to launch a new business.

“The team at Get Started are available with advice and guidance for any aspect of start-up plus we have follow up support to help people grow the business in the future.”
