Top Gun Tools Reduce Carbon Footprint With Sustainable Support

Blackpool-based Top Gun Tools and Fixings, a specialist in power tools, fixings, and fastenings, are receiving support from Blackpool Council's Academies to expand their business and reduce their carbon footprint.

Chris Smith, Managing Director of Top Gun Tools and Fixings, revealed that their collaboration with Blackpool Growth Business Academy has significantly boosted their growth trajectory.

Building on this momentum, Smith has now joined forces with the Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy to enhance their sustainability efforts. Smith said "I’ve got young children and you want to set an example. We already recycle and have a couple of electric vehicles. And it was clear that if we want to work with larger clients we need to operate in a more sustainable way,"

Megan Tucker, sustainability specialist at the Academy, conducted a comprehensive, fully-funded energy audit. The audit provided implementable actions and culminated in a personalised Decarbonisation Action Plan. The plan recommended better monitoring systems, behavioural changes, switching to 100% LED lighting, and switching to electric vehicles.

The energy audit's recommendations are helping Smith to source solar panels for on-site renewable electricity generation to reduce reliance on the National Grid, while also supporting Top Gun to procure funding for solar PV installation. The recommendations predict a reduction of 42% in energy costs and a 45% decrease in the business’ carbon footprint each year.
