Social Value: Happy Creative’s contributions to Blackpool Samaritans' 'Pay for a Day’ campaign

Contractor:
Happy Creative Limited, FY3 9LT
In 2023, to help support the Government’s SPF funding, we appointed Happy Creative as our strategic marketing and branding partner. With social value at the heart of the contract, they work alongside the Business Growth Team to develop and promote the Blackpool Net Zero Business Academy and Blackpool Growth Business Academy – both initiatives designed to create a stronger, more sustainable future for businesses and communities.
Supporting Blackpool’s Community
Social value is at the core of Blackpool Council’s contracts. Via the contracts we award, we aim to be able to give back and support the Blackpool community, and we believe that every business has the power to make a difference. In this social value series, we highlight how the contractors we work with are supporting businesses and communities in Blackpool.
Here’s how Happy Creative are creating a positive social impact through their contributions to Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Samaritans ‘Pay for a Day’ campaign.
Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Samaritans:
The Samaritans ‘Pay for a Day Campaign’ allows companies to pick a day dedicated to them to make a donation to help support their work. With a dedicated team of around 70 volunteers, Blackpool Samaritans provide a vital lifeline for those struggling with their mental health. Their volunteers don’t offer advice or tell callers what to do – they simply listen, creating a safe space for people to share their thoughts and feelings without judgement. That support can be life-changing, sometimes even life-saving.
Providing Dedicated Support:
The Business Growth Team chose 29th August for Happy to contribute to a ‘Pay for a Day’ campaign. This has helped Blackpool Samaritans to answer more than 70 telephone calls, emails, or text messages every single day, as well as provide initial and on-going training for volunteers. It costs Blackpool Samaritans £192 a day to run and maintain the branch and shop, and that money helps ensure that anyone in distress has somewhere to turn. In Blackpool alone they receive and answer more than 70 telephone calls, emails, or text messages every single day. That’s more than 70 people reaching out for support, and over 70 people who just need to be heard.
Chief Happy, Karen Lambert says “Happy have been supporting The Samaritans ‘Pay for a Day’ campaign since 2018. Through this Blackpool Council contract we are incredibly proud to be able to support an extra day for Blackpool Samaritans. Their mission to be there for anyone who needs them, is a value that the Happies hold close to our hearts. We believe that in putting people first and giving back time you can truly make a difference.”
